The Toruños Peninsula and Algaida Pine Forest are part of a metropolitan park of enormous ecological importance and form a part of the larger Bay of Cadiz Nature Park.

The area is made up of a highly developed network of water channels fed by the San Pedro River (channelling into the nearby sea). It is home to a homogeneous, perennial vegetation and a wealth of animal species ranging from a wide variety of invertabrates to abundant shorebirds or waders and fish, numbering up to 40 different species.

The park is managed by the regional government, theJunta de Andalucía, which has put an enhancement strategy in place by creating over 30 km of hike/bike trails, offering visitors a number of different itineraries. These boardwalks, both surface-built and elevated in floodplain areas, are equipped with lookout and observation towers with different vantage points of the area. The park management regularly organises a series of activities to foster greater use and enjoyment of the park, including guided tram tours, kayak and sailing excursions, birdwatching days, etc.

The Toruños Park can be accessed from the town of El Puerto de Santa María at Avenida de la Mar, 7 where theCasa de Los Toruños is located. There, visitors can obtain detailed information from park staff. The LevanteBeach, located within the park´s perimetres, has had a designated area for nudist sunbathing since 2003.
