In 1851, the Duke and Duchess of Medinacelli decided to establish their summer residence in Sanlúcar de Barrameda and as a result, the town started to get better known and the enjoyment and attractiveness provided by its beaches became just as popular as its therapeutic waters..

Even today, its beaches continue to attract great numbers of people in search of the pleasures of its Sanlúcar´s sun and sea.

Sanlúcar has an extense urban beach known as la Calzada-Bajo de Guía-Las Piletas, stretching nearly 2.5 km and 70 metres wide. There are numerous car parks or can also be accessed via the town´s public transport system. Sanlúcar´s beaches are served by a good number of restaurants and beach bars are are equipped with safety and first-aid services as well as being supported by conventional health care facilities.

There is also another semi-urban beach, La Jara, which is 2,6 km long and 75 m wide. Both have fine golden sand and provide for wonderful bathing conditions.

Sanlúcar´s beaches are also fortunate to have the beautiful landscapes of Doñana National Park within view, being an ideal destination for a pleasant walk, even on sunny winter days.
