CASTILLO DE SANCTI PETRI

Description

Without a doubt, this is one of Chiclana¨s most emblematic monuments. The castle is built on the foundations of the ancient Roman temple of Hercules, famous in ancient times. This same location was also chosen for an equally important Phoenician temple dedicated to their god, Melqart.

Today, the monument reflects the remains of an 18th century defensive fortification with battlements and watchtowers from the 16th century. Visible from La Barrosa and Sancti Petri beaches, its silhouette accentuates the charm of many a romantic sunset.
