With over 500 years of history the Yeguada la Cartuja, a national heritage asset, is the world’s largest genetic reserve of Spanish purebred Carthusian horses.

In the grounds of the old Fuente del Suero country estate in Jerez de la Frontera, beside the Carthusian Monastery, you can see today the legendary Spanish purebred Carthusian horses, just as they were towards the end of the 15th century. This is the same spontaneous and majestic image that has enchanted kings, painters, researchers, breeders and poets over the centuries; for here graze the purebred horses of the Yeguada de la Cartuja – Hierro del Bocado stud farm.

One of the main missions of the Yeguada de la Cartuja stud farm is to promote and increase awareness in society of this unique genetic heritage: the Carthusian Spanish horse. To this end visitors are offered a range of different experiences that include everything from guided tours of the facilities and the everyday life of the Carthusian horse, their care, their training, etc… to equestrian shows and riding lessons.

  • Tours with equestrian show

  • Guided turs of the facilities and training sessions

  • Private tours and events

  • School groups

  • Riding Masterclass
